The present essay, addressing an existing research gap, examines the place of "beauty" (Jamāl) in narrative texts and analyzes its jurisprudential implications using a critical method. The author's investigation indicates that the criterion of beauty can be identified and examined in certain contexts, such as preferring an Imam for congregational prayer, selecting a spouse, the presence of women in congregational prayer, choosing a wet nurse, and cosmetic surgery. The research results show that in the issue of preferences for the congregational prayer leader, traditions (akhbār) regarding the preference for facial beauty face challenges in terms of chain of transmission (sanad) and content (dalālah). The interpretation of a number of Imami jurists, in line with this, considers such a criterion to lack valid rational and religious support. Regarding spouse selection, although there are traditions in hadith collections emphasizing physical beauty, these narrations are often weaker in terms of chain of transmission compared to those that prescribe criteria such as religiosity and morality. Concerning the presence of beautiful women in congregational prayer, although jurisprudential views range from absolute prohibition to conditional permissibility, the outcome of the research emphasizes the permissibility (jawāz) and allowance (ibāhah) of this under normal and conventional circumstances. In choosing a wet nurse, the evidence for considering the criterion of beauty is questionable and disputed due to weak chains of transmission and lack of scientific support. Finally, undergoing surgery for beautification purposes, even without establishing necessity, is considered permissible and allowed. The conclusion of the research is that Imami jurisprudence, with a balanced view, although it recognizes beauty within a reasonable framework, discrimination and preference between individuals based on such a criterion lacks solid jurisprudential support.
