A Quranic Approach to Rejecting Religious Pluralism Based on the Verse of Mubahala
Abstract:   (12 Views)

Verse 61 of Surah Al-Imran has become a battleground for the opinions of the commentators of both sects; its fame as the verse of Mubahala and its reference to the historical process of the Najran delegation, the proof of the prophethood of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Imamate of Imam Ali (AS) are the most important reasons for the importance of the verse; the lexical and idiomatic explanation of Mubahala and its compatibility with the status of the continuous revelation of the verse sheds light on many points; an analysis of the opinions of the commentators of both sects shows that, in general, with the relative failure of the context of the verse, two interpretations of the verse have been given attention by the commentators; first, Mubahala's implication on the separation of truth from falsehood with an emphasis on the proof of the prophethood of the Prophet (PBUH) and the truthfulness of his call, which most commentators of both sects agree on; second, the verse's implication on the superiority of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and the immediate caliphate of Imam Ali (AS); although the meaning is complete regarding the caliphate of Imam Ali (AS), despite the clarity of the verse and other indications; However, some Sunni scholars have been forced to deny the presence of the Imam in the Mubahala or its lack of implication for the immediate caliphate; in short, the researchers' studies can be summarized in these two axes; however, paying attention to the context of the verses and a deeper analysis of the Najran delegation shows that the conflict in the verse is minor; the aim of this research is that by transferring the discussion to the Kubra conflict and the negative approach, i.e. the verse's implication of negating pluralism in the field of religion, not only a new result is achieved; but two other implications are more strongly proven by relying on the context and analyzing the composition of the participants in the Mubahala.
