Semantic Analysis of the Corresponding Lexical Items for the Word 'Kadhb' in the Holy Quran

| This research examines the semantic meanings of five key words related to the concept of lying and their correspondence with the term kadhb in the Holy Quran, including iftira, ifk, ramy, taqwul, based on reputable interpretations. Although these words are sometimes considered synonyms of "lying," they are distinct within the Quranic semantic structure, each conveying specific degrees, contexts, rhetorical emphasis, and educational messages. In this paper, the concept of "synonymy" and its position in Quranic sciences are first analyzed, followed by a derivational, morphological, contextual, and interpretative analysis of each term based on authoritative sources. The results indicate that kadhb is a general and encompassing term for lying; iftira refers to deliberate fabricated falsehood with divine-religious weight; ifk signifies the inversion of truth and distortion of reality; ramy involves attributing a heavy accusation (particularly adultery); and taqwul denotes attributing words to God or the Prophet. This study demonstrates that the Quran employs these words with particular rhetorical and pedagogical precision, systematically differentiating the levels of falsehood. |
